Sommelier's Notes A beautiful Saint Joseph with a real signature from his terroir! Directly from the vineyard. Exclusively on The French Cellar!
REGION: Rhône Valley
Appellation: The red wines of Saint-Joseph are made of Syrah and up to 10% Marsanne and Roussanne
Region: Rhône Valley
Estate: Located at Charnas, on the right bank of the northern Rhone valley, this family-owned property was founded in 1806. The 8 hectares of vineyard are divided between the Saint-Joseph and Condrieu appellations. For about ten years, Gilles has been modernizing the domain. He rebuilt the range, changed the labels and he is now extending his cellar.
Grapes: 100% Syrah
Did you know?: Most of the vineyards are situated in and around the commune of Charnas -midway between Lyon and Valence- on the western banks of the Rhone. A large majority of the vineyards are set on terraces which makes most mechanization difficult, if not impossible. Thus, much of the vineyard work continues to be done by hand - but the the better of quality
Beautiful ruby red with red reflections
Pleasant nose, light while evolving to a nice long finish. It starts with black fruits aromas, blackcurrant, some notes of violet and some spices such as paper and a smell of jerked meat. Finishes off with notes of Vanilla and toast.
Frank attack with a velvet feeling, balanced, harmonious, with mur and firm tannins. This wine needs time to come into bloom, nonetheless it is ready for a degustation nowadays.
Wine service temperature: 16° Maturity: ready to drink, up to 5 years cellaring
Poultry terrine, roast meats, ceps, trip, livarot, refined camembert
